A reimagined digital gallery and archive for an established artist
Brief
Elodie Burls is a fine artist with an international presence. She was looking to establish an online portfolio that fits her reach, while being sure she can keep up with managing content with ease. The site has to serve as a navigable history of work and exhibitions, as well as a portal for attracting, and converting interest. Time constraints meant that this project had a narrow window for completion.
The site is a fully custom design, build and architecture. The site is driven by a headless CMS, and any time content on any page is updated, that page is regenerated. This was an important consideration for the growing collection of work, as a regular full rebuild would begin adding up.
The result means that static pages can be served quickly via CDN, regardless of the users region; critical for user engagement, quality and ultimately conversion. Performance, SEO, Accessibly and Best Practice benchmark scores of 100 each, have been achieved on the site; this is an overall representation of quality according to web standards.
The design language is minimal, with neutral tones to emulate the role of a gallery; allowing the art to do the talking. There are subtle interaction design elements, that when coupled with the slick performance, convey a real sense of quality. Smooth scrolling, hover animations, page transitions all add to a smooth elegant feel the the pages.
